Is It Necessary to Perform Background Checks?

There is an enduring controversy concerning the appropriateness of conducting Background Check on certain individuals. Some entities consider performing such checks is necessary for the sake of security. Employers who are currently performing strict screening process for every employee candidate who applies for the job that they currently open will need such checks in order to prevent faulty hiring. If they recruit the wrong employee to be positioned in certain financially sensitive job positions such as financial auditor, secretary, or treasurer, or certain positions that deal with the overall security of the company such as security officer and protection officer.

However, some entities argue that Background Check is not necessary to be undertaken because its benefit is less significant that its harm. People who are against the legalization of Criminal Background Check argue that at these points in time, delving into individual’s private records is not relevant anymore and even may cause extreme privacy violation. Employers who need to know comprehensively about the personality of their employee candidates should rely on the personal information and criminal record which are submitted by those candidates. If they cannot believe such information at certain extent, they can just disapprove the application and choose another candidate whose information befits their expectation.

Nevertheless, either entity stands firmly on their argument and that makes this controversy will likely not be solved soon. Such condition may occur because employers cannot offhandedly believe the information submitted by their employee candidates because they still think that such information is still rather shallow and cannot be really relied on. Employers who perform background checks usually use the data from the checks to verify whether the information submitted by the candidates is trustworthy or not. Recruitment is a serious task that needs comprehensive management and strict screening. Failing to do such task securely may put the company in perilous condition.
